II. Description:
Angkor Archaeological Park, stretching over some 500 square km, including forested area is one of the most interesting sites in South-East Asia. It contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. They include the famous temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations. Angkor Wat temple is the largest religious structure in the world. Originally constructed as a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnufor the Khmer Empire by King Suryavarman II during the 12th century, it was gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the century; as such, it is also described as a "Hindu-Buddhist" temple. Angkor Thom is a capitale city which built in late 12 century (1181-1220 A.D) in the reign of the King Jayavarman VII. Angkor mean the city, Thom mean Big because 3 km by 3 km and in total is 9 square km. Ta Prohm is was built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th century and early 13th century and was originally called Rajavihara ("Royal Monastery"). It was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and center of learning dedicated to his mother.
